Stó:lō which means ‘river’ in Halq’eméylem is the traditional territory of the Upper Stó:lō people which extends from Yale to Langley BC. The Stó:lō are part of a larger cultural family known as the Coast Salish Peoples.

The Stó:lō territory consists of 24 First Nation bands from Langley to 5 Mile Creek, north of Yale on both sides of the Fraser River. The 24 Stó:lō First Nation bands formed the Coqualeetza Cultural Education Centre to provide cultural education services and support to their members.
