CCEC has been and continues to be of value in the lives of the Stó:lō people and the Stó:lō community. The Stó:lō Elders facilitate an important role in Stó:lō communities and in self-government initiatives. The Coqualeetza Cultural Education Centre has operated for 50+ years and will continue to have a significant role within the Stó:lō communities.
Life long friendships and new families have been formed, marriages transpired, skills and education learned, jobs created, history and culture taught along with the identities of Stó:lō people. Many, many people became part of the rich and valuable history of Coqualeetza and being part of the accomplishments achieved over the years has given a sense of pride, honour and respect within each individual. It is particularly important to recognize the Elders of yesterday and today for the commitment and dedication, and to the Board and Staff past and present of CCEC because they too are the reason we exist today and will continue to exist for time immemorial.
Financial Support for CCEC is needed to build a space that includes:
- Space for a functioning archive;
- Space for a place to gather for our elders’ weekly meetings and luncheon;
- Space for cultural and food security workshops;
- Space for supporting individuals and families in need of language, culture and family histories.
For now, a modular build can accommodate our immediate NEED.
